Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together buttermilk.
  6. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
