Description
A quick pasta dish featuring savory sausage tossed in a sweet and spicy chili barbecue sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 pound pasta (penne or rotini recommended)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage and set aside.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the sweet chili sauce, barbecue sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Return the sausage to the skillet. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring to coat.
- If using, stir in the heavy cream and cook until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet. Toss everything together until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the sauces.
- You can substitute smoked sausage with kielbasa or andouille sausage.
- If you omit the heavy cream, the sauce will be thinner but still flavorful.
