Description

A quick pasta dish featuring savory sausage tossed in a sweet and spicy chili barbecue sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 pound pasta (penne or rotini recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage and set aside.
  3. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the sweet chili sauce, barbecue sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Return the sausage to the skillet. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring to coat.
  6. If using, stir in the heavy cream and cook until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet. Toss everything together until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the sauces.
  • You can substitute smoked sausage with kielbasa or andouille sausage.
  • If you omit the heavy cream, the sauce will be thinner but still flavorful.
