- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Carefully stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
- Pour batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until simmering.
- Place chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour hot cream over the chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes, then whisk until smooth.
- Let ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens to a spreadable consistency (about 1-2 hours).
- Once cakes are completely cool, frost with the chocolate ganache.
