Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon chili garlic sauce (or more to taste)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons cold water (slurry)
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and baking soda. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain immediately and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, 1/4 cup soy sauce, brown sugar, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and chili garlic sauce. Pour this mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
- Stir the cornstarch slurry and pour it into the simmering sauce. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Return the cooked beef and the blanched broccoli to the skillet. Toss everything together until well coated and heated through.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic and ginger.
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin.
- If you do not have oyster sauce, use an extra tablespoon of soy sauce and a teaspoon of sugar.
