Description

Make tender pork ribs using a slow cooker and Dr Pepper for a sweet and savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs pork spare ribs
  • 1 (12 oz) can Dr Pepper soda
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the ribs in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, mix the Dr Pepper, barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the ribs.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the ribs are tender.
  5. Remove the ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a baking sheet.
  6. Brush the ribs with some of the cooking liquid if desired.
  7. Broil for 3 to 5 minutes until the edges are slightly caramelized. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Slice the ribs between the bones and serve.

Notes

  • You can reduce the Dr Pepper to 1/2 cup for a less sweet result.
  • For thicker sauce, remove the liquid from the slow cooker and simmer it on the stovetop until reduced.
