This slow cooker recipe combines cabbage, potatoes, and smoked sausage for a hearty and flavorful meal with minimal effort.

- 1 large head green cabbage, cored and chopped into 1-inch pieces
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
- 1.5 pounds smoked sausage, cut into 1/2-inch thick rounds
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Place the chopped cabbage in the bottom of a large slow cooker.
- Layer the potatoes, smoked sausage, and chopped onion over the cabbage.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic, dried thyme, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using) evenly over the ingredients.
- Pour the chicken broth over everything.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until the potatoes and cabbage are tender.
- Stir gently before serving. Taste and add salt if needed.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can brown the sausage slightly in a skillet before adding it to the slow cooker.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated.
