Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Description

A simple recipe combining classic Sloppy Joe filling with melted cheese between grilled bread.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices sandwich bread
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Place four slices of bread, butter-side down, in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  5. Top each slice with two slices of cheese, then a portion of the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  6. Top with the remaining four slices of bread, butter-side up.
  7. Grill for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.
  8. Cut in half and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
  • Use your favorite type of cheese that melts well.
