Description

A simple recipe for tender chicken breasts cooked in a rich, creamy Cajun sauce directly in a skillet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Slice chicken breasts in half horizontally to create thinner cutlets.
  2. In a small bowl, mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Season both sides of the chicken with this mix.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add chicken to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F). Remove chicken and set aside.
  5. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet.
  6. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  7. Pour in chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  8. Stir in heavy cream and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  9. Stir in Parmesan cheese until the sauce thickens slightly.
  10. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Spoon sauce over the chicken.
  11. Cook for 1-2 minutes to heat the chicken through.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can use chicken thighs instead of breasts; adjust cooking time as needed.
  • For a spicier sauce, increase the amount of cayenne pepper or add a dash of your favorite hot sauce.
  • Serve this dish over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
