Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 large green bell pepper, cored and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 large red bell pepper, cored and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 large yellow onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well and let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat until shimmering. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet. Add the green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and onion. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, sugar, and white pepper. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the vegetables. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce and vegetables. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until heated through.
  8. Serve immediately with steamed rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can marinate the beef for up to 30 minutes.
  • Adjust the amount of bell peppers and onions to your liking.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic and ginger.
