Description

A classic Salisbury steak recipe with a savory gravy.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, 1/4 cup chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Form the mixture into four oval patties.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Brown the patties on both sides. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
  5. Add 1/4 cup chopped onion and mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the onion and mushrooms. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth and soy sauce until smooth.
  8. Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  9. Return the patties to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.

  • Serve Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes or rice.
