A classic Salisbury steak recipe with a savory gravy.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, 1/4 cup chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Form the mixture into four oval patties.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Brown the patties on both sides. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
- Add 1/4 cup chopped onion and mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the onion and mushrooms. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and soy sauce until smooth.
- Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Return the patties to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
Notes
- Serve Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes or rice.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
