Description
Meatballs simmered slowly in a rich red wine sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup dry red wine
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix gently.
- Form the mixture into small meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove meatballs and set aside.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Pour in red wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the wine reduce by half.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, beef broth, and oregano. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet. Cover and cook on low heat for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
Notes
- Serve the meatballs over pasta or with crusty bread.
- You can use any dry red wine you enjoy drinking.
