  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A simple, savory dish featuring tender, slow-cooked cabbage with bacon and cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head green cabbage, cut into 8 wedges
  • 4 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add bacon and cook until crisp. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving bacon fat in the skillet.
  2. Add onion to the skillet and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Place cabbage wedges cut-side down in the skillet. Pour chicken broth around the cabbage.
  4. Bring the liquid to a simmer, then cover the skillet and cook on low heat for 20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.
  5. Remove the lid. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Cook uncovered for 5 minutes, stirring gently until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle reserved bacon over the top before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth for a vegetarian option, omitting the bacon.
  • Cook time may vary based on the thickness of your cabbage wedges.
