Description
A recipe for chewy cookies featuring brown butter, maple syrup, and toasted pecans.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter foams, then brown bits form at the bottom and it smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk the cooled brown butter with the brown sugar until combined.
- Whisk in the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the toasted pecans and chocolate chips, if using.
- Cover the dough and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly underbaked.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Toast the pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring often, until fragrant.
- For chewier cookies, slightly underbake them.
- You can substitute walnuts for pecans if desired.
