Ingredients

  • 1 pound steak (such as sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat the steak dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Place the steak in the hot skillet and sear for 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time for desired doneness.
  4. Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely covered with foil.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 1 minute.
  7. Stir in the butter and thyme until the butter melts and the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Slice the rested steak against the grain.
  9. Spoon the garlic sauce over the sliced steak before serving.
