Description

A quick and easy one-pan meal that captures the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef sirloin or ribeye
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
  • 4 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 hoagie rolls, split

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  2. Add onion and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and thyme. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Return beef to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  5. Top the beef and vegetable mixture with provolone and mozzarella cheeses. Cover the skillet and cook until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. While the cheese is melting, melt butter in a separate small skillet over medium heat. Toast the hoagie rolls until golden brown.
  7. Serve the Philly cheese beef mixture on the toasted hoagie rolls.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
  • If you don’t have hoagie rolls, crusty French bread or even sturdy buns will work.
