Description

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls infused with warm gingerbread spices, topped with a sweet maple frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the Maple Frosting:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, salt, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. While dough rises, mix cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice in a small bowl.
  7. Punch down dough and roll it into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a ½ inch border on one long side.
  9. Sprinkle the spice mixture and brown sugar evenly over the butter.
  10. Starting from the long side with butter and sugar, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
  11. Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
  12. Place slices cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
  13. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  14. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  15. While rolls bake, prepare the frosting: Beat powdered sugar, softened butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  16. Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls.

Notes

  • For a stronger gingerbread flavor, add 1 tablespoon of molasses to the dough.
  • Ensure your butter is softened, not melted, for the filling.
  • Adjust maple syrup in frosting to your sweetness preference.
