Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, vegetable broth, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for at least 20 minutes.
