- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
- Combine crushed tomatoes, vinegar, brown sugar, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, allspice, and cloves in a large saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 45-60 minutes, or until thickened to your desired consistency.
- For a smooth ketchup, use an immersion blender to blend the mixture until smooth.
- Let the ketchup cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.
- Store in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Adjust the sugar and vinegar to your taste.
- For a spicier ketchup, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- This ketchup will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
