A simple yet delicious dessert recipe passed down from Grandma.
Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in chopped nuts if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
- Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
