Ingredients

- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are still soft.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For chewier cookies, use more brown sugar than granulated sugar.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
- Add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra flavor and crunch.
