Description
A rich and flavorful rice dish infused with the savory essence of French onion soup and creamy butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1.5 cups long-grain white rice
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Gruyere cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the rice and toast for 1-2 minutes, coating the grains with the onion and butter mixture.
- Pour in the beef broth and add the dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork. If using, sprinkle with Gruyere cheese and let it melt for a minute before serving.
Notes
- For a deeper onion flavor, you can caramelize the onions for longer.
- Use good quality beef broth for the best taste.
- Adjust seasoning to your preference.
