Description
A patriotic cake decorated with berries and cream to resemble an American flag.
Ingredients

- 1 box white cake mix
- water, oil, and eggs called for on cake mix box
- 2 containers (16 ounces each) vanilla frosting
- 1 container (8 ounces) whipped topping, thawed
- 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease and flour two 8-inch or 9-inch round cake pans or one 13×9-inch pan.
- Make and bake cake as directed on box for 8-inch, 9-inch or 13×9-inch pan. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
- In medium bowl, mix vanilla frosting and whipped topping until smooth.
- If using 8-inch or 9-inch pans, place 1 cake layer on serving plate. Spread with about 1/3 of the frosting mixture. Top with second cake layer. Spread remaining frosting mixture over top and side of cake.
- If using 13×9-inch pan, spread frosting mixture over top of cooled cake.
- To decorate, place blueberries in upper left corner of cake for the stars. Arrange sliced strawberries in rows to resemble stripes.
- Store loosely covered in refrigerator.
Notes
- Ensure cake is completely cooled before frosting.
- Use fresh berries for best results.
- Chill cake before serving to allow frosting to set.
