  • For the Streusel Topping:

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the sour cream to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Prepare the streusel topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Sprinkle half of the streusel topping over the batter in the pan.
  9. Spread the remaining batter over the streusel layer.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining streusel topping over the top layer of batter.
  11. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
