Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Stir in the white vinegar quickly. The batter will be thin.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • You can add 1/2 cup of vegan chocolate chips to the batter before baking for extra chocolate flavor.
