Description
Enjoy a classic homemade apple crumble with a buttery, crumbly topping and tender, spiced apples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie dish or baking dish.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and rolled oats.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let the crumble cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
- You can use a mix of apple varieties for more complex flavor.
- If the topping browns too quickly, loosely tent the dish with aluminum foil.
