Description
A simple recipe for ground beef dirty rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup white rice, uncooked
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 celery stalk, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, celery, and green pepper to the skillet. Cook until vegetables soften, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and thyme. Cook for 1 minute more.
- Add uncooked rice, beef broth, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For richer flavor, substitute half the beef broth with water.
- You can use brown rice, but adjust the cooking time as needed.
