Description

A simple recipe for ground beef dirty rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup white rice, uncooked
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, celery, and green pepper to the skillet. Cook until vegetables soften, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and thyme. Cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Add uncooked rice, beef broth, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  8. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, substitute half the beef broth with water.
  • You can use brown rice, but adjust the cooking time as needed.
