- 4 thick slices bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter, for cooking
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a shallow dish.
- Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook bread slices for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Keep warm.
- Wipe out the skillet. Add apple slices, brown sugar, and water to the skillet.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apples soften and the sugar melts into a syrup, about 5-7 minutes.
- Serve the caramelized apples over the warm French toast.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for best results when soaking.
- You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture for extra flavor.
