Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 (1.25 ounce) package dry Italian salad dressing mix
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Place chicken breasts in a slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle Italian dressing mix over chicken.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and chicken broth. Pour over chicken.
  4. Dot with cubed butter.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until chicken is cooked through.
  6. Remove chicken from slow cooker and shred.
  7. Stir cream cheese into the sauce in the slow cooker until melted and smooth.
  8. Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir to coat.
  9. Serve over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water and stir into the sauce during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Add vegetables like mushrooms or peas during the last hour of cooking.
