- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture and salt.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and roll into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over the butter.
- Roll up the dough tightly, starting from a long edge. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
- Place slices, cut-side up, in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the frosting.
- Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls.
Notes
- For softer rolls, let them cool slightly before frosting.
- You can add chopped nuts to the filling for extra texture.
- Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
