Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough and roll into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
  7. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over the butter.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from a long edge. Pinch the seam to seal.
  9. Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
  10. Place slices, cut-side up, in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. While rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the frosting.
  14. Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls.
