Classic Cinnamon Rolls

Description

A recipe for soft and sweet cinnamon rolls with a cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Cut into 12 equal slices.
  7. Place the slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. In a bowl, beat together cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  11. Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls.

Notes

  • For softer rolls, do not overbake.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon filling for extra flavor.
  • For a richer frosting, use heavy cream instead of milk.
