Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a small saucepan, melt 1/2 cup (1 stick) of the butter over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, cream together the remaining 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and the cooled brown butter.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Spread the sliced strawberries evenly over the batter. Top with the remaining batter and spread evenly.
- In a small bowl, combine the streusel ingredients: 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in 1/4 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the cake batter.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a deeper nutty flavor, ensure your butter is properly browned but not burnt.
- You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the streusel for extra spice.
