Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 1/4 cup colorful sprinkles
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters of different sizes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Melt chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Dip each donut into the melted chocolate, coating one side.
- Immediately sprinkle the still-wet chocolate with colorful sprinkles.
- Let the chocolate set before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature is correct for best frying results.
- Don’t overcrowd the pot when frying.
- Allow donuts to cool enough so the chocolate doesn’t melt too quickly.
