A straightforward recipe for preparing hot dogs topped with chili and melted cheese.

- 4 hot dogs
- 4 hot dog buns
- 1 can (15 oz) chili (no beans preferred)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, if using, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the chili to the skillet and heat through, stirring occasionally.
- Cook the hot dogs according to package directions (grill, boil, or pan-fry).
- Warm the hot dog buns.
- Place one cooked hot dog in each bun.
- Spoon the heated chili over each hot dog.
- Top generously with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can use your favorite canned chili or homemade chili.
- For extra flavor, toast the inside of the buns lightly before assembling.
