Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and water or broth.
  5. In a separate tiny bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water to create a slurry.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Stir in the cornstarch slurry. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Serve this stir-fry over steamed white or brown rice.
  • For added texture, add 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
