- 1 cup warm apple cider (105-115F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (for filling)
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (for filling)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for filling)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine warm apple cider and yeast in a small bowl. Let stand 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened butter and 1/2 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time.
- Gradually add flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough. Roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
- Brush the dough evenly with 1/2 cup melted butter. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the buttered dough.
- Roll the dough tightly starting from the long edge. Cut the log into 12 equal rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375F (190C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons apple cider, and vanilla extract for the glaze. Add more cider if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Remove rolls from the oven and immediately drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls. Serve warm.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use unfiltered apple cider.
- If your kitchen is cold, place the dough in an oven that is turned off but has the light on to aid rising.
