Description

A simple, comforting dish made with ground beef, macaroni, and tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion softens, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, water, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  5. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the macaroni is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Remove from heat. If using, sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the top and cover until the cheese melts.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or ground pork for the ground beef.
  • For a richer flavor, use beef broth instead of water.
