  • Author: ferecipe.com
  • Total Time: 2 hours 40 minutes

Description

Homemade copycat 3 Musketeers candy bars with a light and fluffy nougat filling coated in chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon shortening

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8 inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Continue to heat without stirring until the syrup reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer.
  4. While the syrup heats, beat the egg white in a large bowl with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  5. Slowly and carefully pour the hot sugar syrup in a thin stream into the beaten egg white while continuing to beat on high speed.
  6. Add the vanilla extract and salt. Continue beating until the mixture is thick and glossy, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Spread the nougat mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Let it set at room temperature for at least 2 hours, or refrigerate for faster setting.
  8. Once set, lift the nougat out of the pan using the parchment paper. Cut into desired bar shapes.
  9. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine milk chocolate chips and shortening. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
  10. Dip each nougat bar into the melted chocolate, coating completely. Let excess chocolate drip off.
  11. Place coated bars on parchment paper and let the chocolate set completely, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate sugar syrup temperature.
  • Be careful when pouring hot syrup into egg whites.
  • The nougat can be sticky; dusting your knife with powdered sugar can help when cutting.
